| Guidelines
for a Smooth International Move
VIP
Moving Service is dedicated to making your international moving
experience a smooth one. In order to help ease you through the international
relocation process, we have provided some informative links that you can
read before emerging on your journey.
Research
the country you are moving to: Every country has different laws
and customs, so it is best to study the laws and customs of your destination
country before you arrive. This information is available at the country's
consulate. You should also research potential schools your children could
attend. Research schools that work with American children to help your
child adjust to the new educational system.
Obtain
Visas/Passports: You can apply for a visa at your local post
office. You can also obtain legal documents and permits through your country's
consulate. You will need two forms of photo identification and your birth
certificate.
Gather
Records and Personal Papers: There are many different needs for
records and other personal documents. We recommend making several copies
of driver's licenses, birth certificates, and traveling information. You
may want to gather and bring the following important documents:
- Adoption Papers
- Birth certificates
- Certificate of citizenship
- Dental records
- Divorce and child custody papers
- Driver's license
- Income tax records
- Lease or rental agreement for housing in your new country
- Marriage certificate
- Medical insurance coverage
and/or records
- Photographs of each family member
- Power of attorney
- Property and motor vehicle insurance records
- Wills
It can be useful and sometimes be necessary to have your
employment contract or a letter from the employer that is relocating you,
especially when that employer is assisting in your move.
Investigate Vaccinations and Inoculations: Before leaving
the country be sure all of your vaccinations are up to date. The U.S. Public
Health Service Quarantine can tell you which immunizations you and your
family will need before you relocate.
In addition: Make all travel arrangements in advance, and
keep your tickets in a secure location. Submit your change of address to
the post office before you leave. Close out accounts and utilities before
you leave the country.
